Art Conversations

Looking for more art conversations? Join us in person or online on the first Tuesday of every month for Conversation Pieces.

Through Lines

Stent Family Wing, Second Level | 11 a.m.

How do different artworks approach similar ideas in unique ways? In these lively conversations, we will explore two different pieces to connect art across time, geography, identity, and belief.

Through Lines meets at the first artwork location and lasts thirty to forty-five minutes. Please see below for times, artworks, and locations. Stools and assistive listening devices will be available and are highly recommended.

Édouard Manet, Portrait of Madame Jules Guillemet (ca. 1879–1880), and Albert Herter, Portrait of Bessie (Miss Elizabeth Newton) (1892).

Art Making

Interested in more studio offerings? Explore various art-making workshops and classes available all year long.

Open Studio: Paper Sculpture

Greene Family Education Center, Red Workshop | 10 a.m.–12 noon and 2–4 p.m.

Experiment, play, and exercise your creativity during Open Studio! This informal drop-in program encourages adults of all ages to explore different materials and techniques with guidance from High  Museum of Art teaching artists. Materials will be provided, and no prior experience is necessary.

Drawing inspiration from artists including Thornton Dial Sr. and Beverly Buchanan, transform pieces of paper by folding, tearing, and rolling to make different shapes. Then, assemble shapes with techniques like stacking, leaning, and slot-joining to make sculptures of imaginative forms.

Join a facilitated afternoon of mindful movement and sound activations. Tamiko Hope will facilitate this month’s sound bath meditation.
